Dinner beneath the chandeliers
Half board can be added when you book. Each evening the 3 menus — classic, vegetarian and Chef’s Choices — can be combined: I would start with whatever interests you, without committing to a fixed sequence.1
Waldhaus among the larches, with the lake and mountains at sunset.
After a walk between the lakes, I would return to Waldhaus and keep the evening for its lounges. The hotel stands on a hill, so I would use the courtesy van for trips to and from the village.
Book direct The hotel websiteFor 2, I would alternate a spa dip with the dance course, building the weekend around something to do together.

Your choices and answer, ready when you come back.
For swimming, I would choose the indoor pool, 20 metres long and 8 wide, open 7am–8pm. The water is warm and the windows face the larches; there is also an outdoor whirlpool.
The breakfast buffet opens 7am–11am. Half-board dinner runs 6.30pm–9.30pm, leaving some flexibility around the rest of the day.
I would join a hotel tour: it includes the small museum in the former bakery, redesigned by artist Giuseppe Reichmuth.
A 140-room grand hotel in Sils Maria, in the Upper Engadine. Rooms vary between traditional and contemporary interiors, with connecting combinations also available. The main dining room, smaller restaurants and generous shared spaces suit several days without making every evening follow the same pattern.12
Lumina Guide 2027
We choose the hotels of this guide ourselves, one at a time: no one pays to be in it.
How we choose the hotelsWhat do Waldhaus Sils’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest praises the lake view and the location for walks towards the Fex glacier.
One guest describes well-equipped rooms and impeccable room service.
A family returning each year praises the friendliness of the owners and staff.
One guest recalls a wide buffet selection and hot dishes served at the table.
One guest felt service and attention to detail fell short of the price bracket.
| What | Guests’ score | Guests who mention it | Happy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | 8.7 | 25 | 92% |
| Room | 7.4 | 12 | 75% |
| Staff and service | 8.5 | 57 | 89% |
| Breakfast | 7.7 | 7 | 86% |
| Price | – | 5 | 0% |
72 guests said so on Google, from 3 November 2024 to 25 October 2026. 72 written reviews; 38 text-free ratings also retained. Alternatives are in St Moritz, not Sils. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in the Upper Engadine, between Sils and St Moritz:
Price: for 2, the night of 14 December 2026, from 458 CHF on Google Hotels on 3 November 2026.
2 details from the official 2014 film: woods around the façade and a window towards the peaks. Interiors reflect the time of filming.

Miller & Maranta’s design, opened in 2016, spreads the spa over 3 levels and 1,500 m². Tall windows, overhead light and changing materials give each room a different feel; I would walk through the whole space before booking a treatment.1
The winter season runs 11 December 2026–4 April 2027. The hotel closes in summer 2027 to replace its lifts and rework part of the entrance; the announced reopening is 15 October 2027, with that season ending 18 April 2028.1
Outside peak periods, cancellation is free until 5 days before arrival; during peak periods, until 10 days. Penalties apply afterwards, while Christmas and New Year have separate conditions. I would check the precise rate before confirming.1
Dogs are welcome for a nightly supplement, excluding food, but cannot enter the dining room. I would ask for the charge when booking.1
Winter offers include 3–5-night treatment stays: Feel-Good Package, Anti-Stress Days, Detox Days, Focus on Your Skin and From Head to Toe. Available windows vary across December, January and late February–early April; yoga and cross-country retreats run 31 January–4 February and 24–28 February 2027.1
Spa access is free for hotel guests; the spa and gym are for ages 14 and above. Non-residents can purchase admission to the pool with outdoor whirlpool or to the full spa, excluding the gym. Advance reservation is required for the spa.12
Waldhaus hosts weddings and celebrations. Larger groups can use the 90 m² Sunny Corner or the Wedding Room; the planning service provides contacts for flowers, music, photography and the wedding cake.1

If arriving by train, tell the driver your St Moritz arrival time: the station transfer is free by arrangement. There are eCarUp charging points for electric cars; check the charging tariff before plugging in.12
The sauna circuit includes a 90°C Finnish sauna, a 60°C bio sauna and 2 steam baths at 45°C and 42°C. A 12°C plunge pool provides cooling; I would ask the team how to alternate the stops.
I would suggest the daily children’s film to younger guests. The annex also has table tennis, billiards, table football and a Wii station: options for those returning early from an outing.
The bar opens from 10am and also serves snacks. After dinner, I would browse the spirits and cigar lists before choosing a drink.
Yoga classes for all levels take place 4 times a week, free for guests by reservation. I would ask for the timetable on arrival, along with aqua-jogging and sound-meditation sessions.
At GIGERs I would alternate seasonal dishes with fondue or raclette. Winter opening is Wednesday to Sunday; lunch depends on the period, with opening hours of 12pm–10.15pm on 1 March–3 April 2027. It is closed for dinner on 25 December 2026.
72 written reviews published between 29 October 2024 and 29 October 2026; 38 ratings without text are retained separately. These are publication dates, not stay dates.
It remains entirely a family business, without outside partners or managers. The fifth generation took over management in 2010.1
One night for 2 adults: 11 December 2026, CHF 469; 12 January 2027, CHF 466; 1 March 2027, CHF 460. Room category, meals and taxes unspecified. Prices from Google Hotels, 3 November 2026.1
The Waldhaus Trio plays in the great lounge 4pm–6pm, except Mondays, and from 9pm in the hall or bar. Guest readings and concerts follow the cultural calendar; check the dates for your stay.12
It opened on 15 June 1908, founded by Josef and Amalia Giger-Nigg. They had already managed other grand hotels before opening their own.1

At Ermitage, the afternoon means cake at Bärgblick.

The palace Gstaad looks up to, from fondue in an old vault to music at GreenGo.

From boat to ridge, Lake Lucerne returns in the view from the warm pool.

Johannes Baur opened the hotel in 1844.

163 rooms and suites in the Badrutt family’s towered grand hotel of 1896, with 11 restaurants, 2 pools and Via Serlas at the door; open in winter and summer
