The Grand Hôtel du Lac is Vevey on foot: the lakefront under the windows, breakfast in the garden and, in mid-November 2026, a night for 2 from CHF 255. If you want quiet summer evenings in the garden, pick another week: from 10 June to 29 August 2027 the Buddha-Bar Beach plays there.

Like a regular

A balcony over the lake and the Alps
  1. The lake-view Junior Suite

I would ask for a lake-view Junior Suite: 45 m², a sitting area in the bedroom and a balcony with a table and chairs over Lake Geneva. The lake-view Superiors reach 20 m², so for comfort I would go up at least one category.

  2. November nights

From 10 to 19 November 2026 a night for 2 runs from CHF 255 to CHF 265, each taken alone, and from 25 November to 3 December it stays at CHF 265. On 31 December a night reaches CHF 704.

  3. Parking and treatments

Private parking is booked ahead and costs CHF 40 a day. Spa treatments are extra: a 30-minute massage costs CHF 95, and a 90-minute treatment reaches CHF 430.

  4. Arriving by boat

If you arrive by boat there is no hotel jetty: you moor in the port of Vevey, which has visitor berths, or at La Tour-de-Peilz.

What the Grand Hôtel du Lac is

Guests talk most about the lakefront setting and breakfast in the garden; they split on the bill, so I would look at the offers. GHDL Essentials starts at CHF 438 a night with breakfast, a 3-course dinner at La Véranda and the spa.12

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Grand Hôtel du Lac’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about the lakefront under the windows, the view of the mountains and Vevey on foot.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the lake-view rooms and the classic furnishings; some find them dated or describe a room not properly prepared.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Service comes across as attentive and old-school, with touches for anniversaries; some guests describe a cool welcome at reception.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast in the garden, facing the lake, wins guests over with its presentation and choice.

  5. Price

Those who mention the bill are divided: some find the price fair for the setting, others find the spa and the brasserie expensive.

500 guests said so on Google, from 22 October 2018 to 13 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Vevey and on the Lake Geneva Riviera: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 20 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Vevey and on the Lake Geneva Riviera:

Price: for 2, the night of 8 November 2026, from 250 CHF on Google Hotels on 20 October 2026.

What a night costs, period by period

I would go between late October and March, when a night for 2 stays between CHF 250 and CHF 338. In high summer, from 15 June to 24 August 2027, it climbs to CHF 559.

A dish at Emotions

Dinner at Emotions

Emotions is the gourmet restaurant: a tasting menu in 4 or 5 sequences, 17 out of 20 from Gault & Millau, open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday.12

A table at La Véranda

The classics at La Véranda

La Véranda serves Burgundy snails, cordon bleu and flambéed crêpes Suzette, daily from 7am to 11pm. It is the restaurant to keep for evenings without a plan.12

The outdoor pool and its loungers

A swim under the golden rain tree

The heated outdoor pool opens daily from May to September, 10am to 7pm, for hotel guests only.12

Good to know before you book

  • Private parking is booked ahead and costs CHF 40 a day: there are 16 spaces, a valet and 4 charging points.12

  • Only the lake-view Deluxe rooms and Junior Suites have a balcony, plus the 2 suites.1

  • In summer, from 10 June to 29 August 2027, the Buddha-Bar Beach takes over the garden: cocktails from 4pm to 11pm and DJ sets, every evening except Tuesday.1

Before booking

What kind of hotel is the Grand Hôtel du Lac?

A 5-star Superior hotel classified by HotellerieSuisse, a member of Relais & Châteaux and Swiss Deluxe Hotels. It was built in 1868 and fully renovated between 2004 and 2006; it has 50 rooms, 9 of them suites, 24 facing the lake and 26 the town.123

What does a night cost?

Google Hotels, read on 20 October 2026 for 2 adults, shows CHF 265 on 16 November 2026, CHF 284 on 12 January 2027 and CHF 479 on 14 August 2027. The dearest night on the calendar is 31 December 2026, at CHF 704.1

What are the rooms and suites like?

They run from the lake-view Superior, up to 20 m², to the 110 m² Léman Suite with an open kitchen. Every category comes on the lake side or the town side, and lake-side rooms are slightly smaller. I would take the lake-view Deluxe, up to 29 m² with a balcony; for more space on the lake, the Junior Suite has 45 m².12345

Where would I have dinner and a drink?

Emotions is the gourmet restaurant, 17/20 Gault & Millau, open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday; La Véranda, a brasserie of French classics, is open daily from 7am to 11pm. For a cocktail there is the Chinese-style bar and its lounges, and room service runs around the clock. In summer the Marina on the garden, May to September, and the Buddha-Bar Beach join them.123456

What is breakfast like?

A buffet of pastries, local produce and vegetarian options, with eggs and porridge made to order; it can also be served in the room.12

What is the spa like?

It is intimate: a hammam, a sauna, relaxation rooms with complimentary tea and 3 treatment rooms, using Valmont and KOS Paris. A 30-minute massage costs CHF 95, and a 90-minute treatment reaches CHF 430.123

Is the spa included, and can outside guests come?

For hotel guests the spa is free and unlimited, and so is the pool. Visitors can use the hammam, sauna and relaxation room for an hour when they book a treatment; the pool stays reserved for hotel guests. Under-14s cannot use the hammam or sauna.123

What is the pool like?

It is outdoors in the garden and heated in fine weather from May to September inclusive, daily from 10am to 7pm. It is reserved for hotel guests, and dogs are not allowed.12

Can you hold a wedding or a private event here?

Yes. The Viennese Room, 170 m², seats 120 for a banquet and holds 200 for drinks, and there are outdoor spaces too. Quotes are made to measure; with at least 60 adults the wedding night is offered to the couple.12

What do guests say?

On Google, 162 of the 165 guests who mention the location speak well of it, and 47 of the 58 who mention breakfast praise it. They split on the bill: 16 of the 27 who talk about it find it high.1

Is there parking?

Yes: private parking is booked ahead and costs CHF 40 a day, with 16 spaces, a valet and 4 charging points, one of them a Tesla charger.12

Where is it, and is it quiet?

On the Vevey quay at Rue d’Italie 1, facing the small marina near La Tour-de-Peilz: the station is 1.5 km away, about 10 minutes on foot, and Montreux 8 minutes by car. Evenings are quiet, except in summer, when the Buddha-Bar Beach plays in the garden until 11pm.12

Is it open all year?

Yes: nights are on sale in every month from October 2026 to September 2027. Only the Marina and the Buddha-Bar Beach close for the season, reopening in summer.123

What else is there?

The historic lounges, the Oriental Lounge among them, the Viennese Room for events, the hotel’s chauffeur-driven cars and room service at any hour.1234

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Montreux Riviera lists Emotions among the restaurants with Christmas and New Year menus. That night a room for 2 costs CHF 704.12

Are there special offers?

Yes. GHDL Essentials, from CHF 438 a night, combines a town-view room, breakfast, a 3-course menu at La Véranda, the spa and the Montreux Riviera Card. Instant de Détente adds a treatment of your choice and 30% off others to the night and dinner; Sleep & Dine includes dinner at La Véranda.123

Which room would I choose with children?

The Duplex Family Suite in the turret: 59 m² on 2 floors joined by a staircase, with the children’s room and the balcony on the 3rd floor and the parents’ room on the 4th.1

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, for a surcharge: in the hotel it stays on a lead, and it is welcome at La Véranda, the Marina and the Buddha-Bar Beach, never at the pool.123

What are check-in and check-out times?

Arrival is from 3pm to midnight and the room is left by noon; other times are requested when booking, without a guarantee.1

Still choosing?

The lakeside façade with its awnings down

Hôtel des Trois Couronnes

Since 1842 the Trois Couronnes façade has looked out over Lake Geneva from the Vevey waterfront. I would book a Junior Suite Lake, south-facing with a sitting area, and keep an hour for the 24-metre indoor pool.

The RoyAlp chalets in the snow, from above

Chalet RoyAlp Hôtel & Spa

RoyAlp is 4 chalets of wood and stone in the Villars snow, with the slopes running to the door. I would book a mountain-view Executive with its private terrace, and leave the evening to Le Grizzly.

The Bellevue Suite bedroom, with the Jet d’Eau beyond the balcony door

Hôtel d’Angleterre

At the d’Angleterre I would choose the Bellevue Suite: 70 m² with a balcony on the lake, and the Jet d’Eau in the doorway. There are 45 rooms on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, and the Leopard Bar has live music 6 nights a week.

The hotel façade at dusk, its sign lit in the Old Town

Hôtel Les Armures

Les Armures is a 17th-century house one minute from St Peter’s Cathedral. Its 32 rooms share the house with Geneva’s oldest café, where the evening means a moitié-moitié fondue.

The lounge with the fire lit and the murals of the city

Hôtel de la Cigogne

At La Cigogne, on Place Longemalle, the lounge fire is lit on winter evenings beneath murals of the city. Its 49 rooms are all different, a short walk from the lake and the Old Town.

An open French window onto the balcony, with the lake and the Jet d’Eau

Beau-Rivage Genève

At the Beau-Rivage I would choose the Junior Suite Lake View Panorama: 45 m² facing the Jet d’Eau, with balconies. There are 95 rooms and suites on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, and the same family has run the house since 1865.

The Dolder Grand from the air at sunset: the turreted 1899 building between its two curved modern wings, on the wooded hillside above Zurich

The Dolder Grand

Curhaus towers above Zurich, art in the corridors and warm water facing the city.

The Belle Époque façade on Rue du Grand-Chêne: red awnings, wrought-iron balconies and the carved gable above the columned entrance porch lettered “Lausanne-Palace”, with flags; the brasserie’s green awning on the left

Lausanne Palace

Lausanne climbs behind the palace; from the right rooms, the lake appears beyond the rooftops.

Steam rising in the morning from the outdoor sports pool, with frost on the shrubs and the garden, the chalet wings with their wooden balconies on the right and rocky peaks against a clear sky on the left

ERMITAGE Wellness- & Spa-Hotel

In Schönried the brine pool runs outdoors; inside, the Stuben and cake table slow the day.

The palace lit up at blue hour in winter, its towers above the snow-covered chalet roofs of Gstaad, with ski slopes on the mountain behind

Gstaad Palace

The palace Gstaad looks up to, from fondue in an old vault to music at GreenGo.

The Alpine Spa’s outdoor infinity pool at dusk: two bathers at the edge, a lit fountain bowl, and the lake and its shores under a pink and violet sky

Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa

From boat to ridge, Lake Lucerne returns in the view from the warm pool.

The view over the hotel’s roofs in summer: flags over the park, the Schanzengraben canal lined with boats, and Lake Zurich with the Alps on the horizon

Baur au Lac

A park between city and lake, Le Hall under glass and Zurich just beyond the trees.
