After time by the lake, I would leave an unhurried afternoon for the pools and treatments at Swiss Diamond. For a hotel opening straight into central Lugano, I would look elsewhere.

Is it for you?

As a couple, I would start with the Superior, for a view of the lake when waking up.

I’d ask for
A 50-minute relaxation massage for each of us.
Worth knowing
The treatment costs CHF 120 per person; Diamond Spa opens daily, 10am–7pm.

Like a regular

The indoor pool with columns and a decorated ceiling
  1. The spa without staying

A day visit without an overnight stay costs CHF 60, including a robe, towel, lounger, slippers and use of the indoor pool, sauna, Turkish steam bath, hammam and gym.

  2. An outdoor lounger

Outside guests can rent an outdoor pool lounger for CHF 80. Booking is required and depends on hotel availability: I would agree the access I want beforehand, keeping this separate from the indoor day pass.

  3. Ask about the Spa Suite

For an occasion for 2, I would ask about the Spa Suite suggested for newlyweds, with a private sauna and Jacuzzi and views of the surrounding landscape. Agree availability and a quote directly before choosing accommodation.

We choose the hotels of this guide ourselves, one at a time: no one pays to be in it.

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Swiss Diamond Hotel’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest remembers swimming directly in the lake; another finds parking convenient despite seeing it from the room.

  2. Room

One guest remembers a comfortable bed and large bathroom; another finds the room small and the bed uncomfortable.

  3. Staff and service

5 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest receives useful advice at reception; another describes soap and shower gel not being replaced after cleaning.

  4. Breakfast

One guest finds breakfast varied and plentiful; another would change the menu and room layout.

  5. Price

One guest finds the meal expensive; another considers the price too high for the service and room maintenance.

158 guests said so on Google, from 29 October 2024 to 23 October 2026. Includes meals and visits without an overnight stay. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Where to linger

Restaurant Lago tables on the veranda

Dining follows the season

In summer, Lago serves Mediterranean cooking beside the water, including fish and homemade pasta, with tables on the veranda. In winter, hotel guests have lunch and dinner at Panorama on the 6th floor; in the warmer months Panorama is used for private events.12

The timber-lined sauna benches

Heat before a rest

Venus has a sauna, Turkish steam bath and hammam. The indoor pool also has whirlpool jets, before a rest on the loungers.1

Good to know before you book

  • Cancellation and prepayment depend on the selected accommodation and rate. Bookings of more than 5 rooms may have different terms and extra fees. Pets are allowed on request, with possible additional charges to agree. A customer writing on 28 September 2026 reports a CHF 40 supplement for a dog, allowed on terraces but excluded from indoor restaurants: I would reconfirm the fee and permitted areas.12

  • Booking lists extra beds as free up to age 6, CHF 80 a night for ages 7–11 and CHF 95 from age 12. Availability and number depend on the room; supplements are paid separately. Guests aged 13+ pay the adult accommodation rate, separately from the extra-bed supplement.1

  • Before confirming, I would ask for a room away from the road and music, and an update on outside works. A guest writing on 23 October 2026 describes audible traffic and morning construction noise; a review dated 28 July finds the evening music loud. These are dated experiences to weigh if quiet matters.1

  • For a wedding, bespoke menus and the Lago or Panorama venues can be arranged. Des Artistes seats up to 170 theatre-style or 200 for a reception; Panorama holds 60 for a banquet or 80 for a reception. Capacity depends on the layout.123

  • Some guests writing in May and June 2026 describe the indoor pool and spa being closed for works. A review dated 1 October describes using both pools and the wellness area: before travelling, I would reconfirm the facilities that matter to my stay.1

  • The official brochure describes the hotel as open year-round.1

  • Before choosing your dates, ask which offers and packages you can book for your stay and which conditions apply.1

The shuttle to Lugano centre and station is free. Transfers to Lugano Airport are also free and arranged on request and subject to availability; animals cannot travel in the shuttle. To arrange one, I would use the Swiss number +41 91 735 00 00. Guests receive the Ticino Ticket, with free regional train and bus travel and other discounts in the canton.123

A day on Lake Lugano

On the lake

Take the helm without a licence

The 8 hp motor boat needs no licence, and fuel is included. For an outing on my own, I would agree the hire duration, equipment and price before boarding.

A summer lunch

A menu through Ticino

Lago’s 4-course Ticino tasting menu costs CHF 90 per person, for at least 2. It moves from perch in carpione marinade to risotto with porcini, saffron and Ticino fresh cheese, then veal cheek and ratafià zabaglione.

A summer evening

The bar beside the water

Bar Lago opens in summer, 10am–1am, including to visitors without a room. The warmer-season programme has live music 7pm–11pm: I would come for the evening when I want to listen.

A spa break

A body treatment

A body peeling lasts 25 minutes and costs CHF 80. Combined with a massage, the treatment lasts 50 minutes and costs CHF 120.

Before an evening out

A blow-dry at the hotel

The hair stylist works by appointment Thursday–Sunday, 2pm–7pm. A blow-dry costs CHF 70; a haircut costs CHF 60 for women or men.
