It suits a couple who want a villa with a pool over the ocean, a butler and breakfast at any hour, and little reason to leave. As a base for touring Bali it is less handy: Ubud is 48 km by road and the south’s traffic stretches every outing.

Our verdict

The Bvlgari Villa from above: the long pool on the lawn, a thatched pavilion, loungers under a parasol and the ocean behind.

A walled village of villas on a limestone cliff, where the day is spent between a private pool, a bar above the sea and a cove at the bottom of a funicular.

Bvlgari opened its second hotel here in 2006, after Milan, and marked 20 years on 23 September 2026 with an exhibition of Kamasan paintings by Balinese children in its chapel, as its own page records. The 59 villas and mansions stand on 8.4 hectares at the top of a 160-metre limestone cliff on the Bukit peninsula, says the overview, each villa behind a Balinese gate and a stone wall, as the villa pages describe them. MICHELIN gives it Two Keys; Tatler Indonesia named it Hotel of the Year 2026.

The villas are the reason to come. The smallest measure 300 m², with a bedroom in glass and dark wood, a glass-walled terrazzo bathroom among the plants and an infinity-edge pool facing the ocean; the 8 Ocean Cliff Villas sit closest to the edge. The Bvlgari Villa has 1,300 m² and a heated 20-metre pool that spills into a second one. Every rate includes a butler round the clock, breakfast at any hour, the minibar’s soft drinks, laundry and the sunset aperitivo at The Bvlgari Bar, which floats among pools 160 metres above the sea.

The beach is a white cove at the foot of the cliff, closed to outsiders by the reef and reached by an inclined lift and stairs; the funicular was out of service for months and the chain announced the beach’s return on 24 June 2026. Outside the walls Bali starts slowly: Uluwatu temple is 6 km away, Ubud 48. On Google Hotels, read on 16 October 2026, a night for 2 cost from IDR 30,970,350 to IDR 41,916,528 between November 2026 and September 2027, tax and service included; guests who write about the price mostly find it worth paying for the service and the view.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

On the southern cliffs of the Bukit peninsula, 160 metres above the Indian Ocean: Uluwatu temple about 6 km, Jimbaran about 10, Ubud about 48 by road.

  2. Character

Bvlgari’s second hotel, opened in 2006: Balinese gates and thatched roofs, Italian design, the first Bvlgari wedding chapel.

  3. Rooms

59 villas and mansions from 300 to 3,590 m², every one with its own pool; a butler and laundry included.

  4. Food and social life

Sangkar on the cliff from breakfast to 11pm, Il Ristorante – Niko Romito at dinner, The Bvlgari Bar with its aperitivo, La Spiaggia on the beach at lunch.

  5. Wellness

The Bvlgari Spa on the cliffside, a Technogym gym, a tennis court with free court time, the Serpenti Pool Clvb.

  6. The stay as a whole

Google Hotels, read on 16 October 2026: IDR 30,970,350 to IDR 41,916,528 a night for 2 between November 2026 and September 2027, tax and service included.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Bvlgari Resort Bali’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of the cliff, the ocean in front of the villa and the sunsets; others write of the distances inside the resort, covered by buggy, the traffic on excursions and the beach out of reach during the works on the funicular, in reviews written between April 2025 and July 2026.

  2. Room

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write of spacious, private villas with their own pool over the ocean and large bathrooms; a few, writing between September 2024 and November 2025, find the furnishings a little dated.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests mention the butler who looks after the villa, the butler team answering by chat or WhatsApp and breakfast at any hour; those who write of being turned away were not staying at the resort: delivery riders stopped at the gate, visitors refused the pool or the restaurant.

  4. Breakfast

6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is ordered at any hour, at Sangkar on the cliff or on the villa’s terrace: guests praise the open hours, the view and the food; the less happy, writing between February 2023 and October 2025, find the choice limited and the cooking ordinary.

  5. Price

7 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Those who find the bill fair tie it to the service and the view; those who do not mention the bar and restaurant prices, the minimum spend asked of visitors who come for a drink or a meal, and a seafood dinner described in October 2026.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 16 July 2022 to 15 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Uluwatu: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 16 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Uluwatu:

  • Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali
  • Alila Villas Uluwatu
  • Raffles Bali
  • Jumeirah Bali
  • Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay

Good to know before you book

  • The hotel’s prices are quoted before 21% of tax and service charge. In its booking engine for 16 to 23 November 2026 an Ocean View Villa cost IDR 28,000,000 a night, or IDR 33,880,000 with tax and fees; the nightly prices on Google Hotels already include them.

  • The resort is built down a cliff, with paths and steps between the villas: guests move about by buggy. In the booking engine every villa type read says it comes in no mobility-accessible version, with a tub or with a roll-in shower.

  • Between 28 December 2026 and 2 January 2027 Google Hotels showed no price. The New Year’s Eve party at the Pavilion is free for resident guests; for others it costs IDR 9,000,000 per person, plus tax and service.

Questions before you book

What kind of hotel is Bvlgari Resort Bali?

A resort of 59 villas and mansions on 8.4 hectares at the top of a 160-metre limestone cliff at Uluwatu, on the Bukit peninsula in the south of Bali, says the overview. It is the second property of Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, after Milan; it opened in 2006 and turned 20 on 23 September 2026. The design mixes Balinese gates and thatched roofs with Italian interiors; the Mansions are by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel.

MICHELIN gives it Two Keys, Forbes Travel Guide 5 stars in 2026, Tatler Indonesia the title of Hotel of the Year 2026.

What are the villas and mansions like, and how big are they?

9 categories, all with a private pool. The one-bedroom villas measure 300 m² in the booking engine: Ocean View, Premier Ocean View at the top of the resort and the 8 Ocean Cliff villas at the edge, each for up to 3, plus one Serpenti Villa of 300 m². The 2-bedroom Premier Ocean View and Ocean Cliff villas measure 550 m² and take up to 6.

The Bvlgari Villa has 1,300 m² on 2 storeys and a heated 20-metre pool; the Mansions start at 1,710 m² with 3 suites (up to 9 guests) and at 3,590 m² with 5 (up to 15). The villas have a terrazzo bathroom walled in glass on a garden, a bath, a separate shower and a double basin; the bed’s textiles are handmade in Klungkung, in Bali.

Which villas have a private pool, and is any of them heated?

All of them. The one-bedroom villas have an infinity-edge pool, the 2-bedroom villas a private pool (the Premier Ocean View one adds a whirlpool for 2), the Mansions a 2-tier pool shaped on Bali’s rice terraces. The only pool the hotel calls heated is the 20-metre one of the Bvlgari Villa, which spills into a lower pool.

What is the main pool like?

The main pool is now the Serpenti Pool Clvb: it overlooks the ocean from the gardens, with cabanas, loungers and parasols in the gold of Bvlgari’s Serpenti line, and resident guests get snacks, fresh fruit and cocktails through the day. The hotel does not say whether it is heated. A guest writing in October 2025 enjoyed the large infinity pool even more than the villa’s own.

Does the resort have a beach, and is the funicular running?

Yes: Serpenti Beach, a white-sand cove at the foot of the cliff, reached only by the funicular, an inclined lift, and by stairs cut into the cliff, with 4 pairs of sunbeds and a cabana for resident guests. The reef closes it to the public by land and by sea.

The funicular was out of service for months; the chain announced the beach’s reopening on 24 June 2026, Sophibee reported the funicular running on 8 July 2026, and a guest writing in August 2026 calls the glass gondola down unbelievable.

What are the restaurants and bars, and when are they open?

Sangkar, on the highest point of the cliff, serves Balinese and Indonesian cooking from 6:30am to 11pm, with breakfast all day. Il Ristorante – Niko Romito serves Italian dinners with Balinese ingredients from 6 to 10pm, last orders at 9.

The Bvlgari Bar opens from 10am to 1am, with the aperitivo every evening from 5 to 7. La Spiaggia, on the beach, serves lunch only, from noon to 4pm, to resident guests: 16 seats, seafood and grilled lobster, prices in thousands of rupiah plus tax and 10% service.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, in every rate, and at any hour: the villa pages list a 24-hour breakfast, served à la carte at Sangkar or in the villa. Guests praise breakfast at any hour and the view from the terrace; 2 guests, writing in February 2023 and September 2024, found the choice limited.

Is there an afternoon tea?

Yes, at The Bvlgari Bar and at Sangkar. The festive programme prices the season’s afternoon tea, from 14 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, at IDR 2,200,000 per couple, plus tax and service, from 2 to 5pm; the year-round tea’s price is not on the hotel’s pages.

What is the spa like, and what does a massage cost?

The Bvlgari Spa stands on the cliffside, with views of the Indian Ocean; guests arrive in an antique Joglo from Central Java, and couples’ rituals take place in the Royal Spa Pavilion, which has a plunge pool. The hotel names no sauna or steam room.

On the price list: a traditional massage IDR 3,000,000, Healing Stones (120 minutes) IDR 4,300,000, Augustinus Bader facials from IDR 3,000,000, the Royal Lulur for 2 IDR 20,000,000, all plus tax and service. Beside it, a Technogym gym and a tennis court with free court time for resident guests.

Is the spa included, and can visitors use the resort for a day?

Guests return to the cliff and the ocean from the villa, the butlers, breakfast at any hour and the private pools; the complaints concern the months without a beach, the distances covered by buggy, some tired furniture and the prices at the bar and restaurants.
