A swim in the Roman pool, then a cellar tasting: that would be my day at Chasa Montana. In winter the pool is reserved for ages 16+ from 6am–9am and 6pm–8pm; I would take children outside those hours.

Is it for you?

For 2, I would pause in the Relax Room between a swim and heading to dinner.

I’d ask for
The Dream Bath Rose in the Kaiserbad.
Worth knowing
It lasts 50 minutes and costs CHF 150 for 2 people, including a glass of Champagne each.

Like a regular

  1. Starting without carrying skis

I would take the hotel’s free ski shuttle to the gondola: the stated journey is 2 minutes. Ski Safes have boot heating, and hired equipment can be delivered to the ski room.

  2. A Dine Around evening

To change restaurants, I would opt out of half board by noon. Dine Around credits CHF 35 per person, CHF 10 per child, when choosing among 5 à la carte restaurants; some are at other Zegg addresses.

  3. An e-bike for summer

In summer I would borrow a hardtail e-mountain bike, free for guests. Full-suspension bikes can be hired at a reduced rate; for a guided ride, the bike school sets the route and price individually.

What Chasa Montana is

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Relais & Châteaux Chasa Montana’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

One guest likes the setting and view; another describes Samnaun as a small, quiet village for a few days’ rest.

  2. Room

One guest finds the room spacious and well equipped. Another remembers a large shower, wardrobe and practical layout.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest remembers a welcome aperitif and espresso before departure. Another finds the staff friendly but describes booming spa music and a sauna that remained cold.

  4. Breakfast

One guest likes the broad buffet choice. Another describes water needing refilling and multivitamin juice that tasted too sour.

  5. Price

One guest finds room-and-breakfast prices at the upper end, particularly in summer.

41 guests said so on Google, from 9 December 2024 to 28 October 2026. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against across the Graubünden Alps:

What a night costs, period by period

For lower prices, I would look at late June and early July 2027. The year-end holiday nights sit above the rest of the calendar.

Where to linger

Set tables at La Serena, with glasses and stemware

La Serena, a dinner you choose

At La Serena I would choose my own course through dinner: half board lets you select dishes and combinations freely from the daily menu. Dinner starts between 7pm and 8.45pm; the restaurant is reserved for hotel guests.12

The round grotto whirlpool among candles and rock

The warm-water grotto

In the grotto I would start with the 35°C whirlpool before moving to a heated bench. It is one of Montana Spa’s 4 pools: 1,500 m² with 7 saunas, a Spa Lounge, Vitaminbar, Relax Room and Silent Room.12

Good to know before you book

  • The hotel closes on 1 November and reopens on 26 November 2026. On closing day, you can keep your room until 3pm and use the pool during the day; La Pasta closes at 3pm.1

  • Treatments run 9am–8pm. Spa reception is open 8.30am–10am and 3.30pm–6pm; treatments can also be selected and booked online.1

  • The Finnish Panorama sauna is around 90°C, the Bio sauna 55°C. There are salt and aromatic steam baths around 43°C, a textile sauna around 80°C and an infrared cabin.1

  • Breakfast, afternoon pastries, Montana Spa, the gym, Wi-Fi and Swiss coffee in the room are included. Every category has a tea-and-coffee station and Smart TV; the stocked minibar is charged.12

  • Hotel rates exclude visitor’s tax: CHF 4 per person per night from age 17. It covers the Samnaun bus, reduced-price ski passes and activities in the tourism programme.1

  • Winter bookings require a 30% deposit; cancellation is free up to 14 days ahead. The hotel’s scale then moves to 30%, 70% from 7 days and 100% from the day before arrival; 100% also applies to late arrival and early departure. Card refunds return to the same card; if the card is no longer active, the refund is issued as a voucher.1

  • Summer requires written reconfirmation; cancellation is free until 4pm the day before, then 100% is charged, including late arrival or early departure. The Non Refundable rate discounts the ordinary price by 10%, with no changes or refunds and no combination with packages or other reductions.1

  • The Booking conditions list CHF 40 per child per night for a cot at ages 0–2, and CHF 200 per person per night for an extra bed from age 17. Available sleeping places depend on the room booked; I would confirm the party’s exact ages and composition before choosing.1 Dogs are accepted on request.1

  • Half board and the La Pasta and Bündner Stube restaurants offer gluten-free and lactose-free dishes. I would explain dietary needs before arriving and agree suitable dishes with the kitchen.1

  • From 26 November 2026 to 2 May 2027, Ski & Spa combines 2 nights with half board, a 2-day ski pass and CHF 50 wellness voucher. The Christmas Family Special, 18–27 December 2026, includes children’s overnight stays with at least 2 full-paying guests; I would confirm eligible ages before booking.12

  • The hotel arranges weddings and company celebrations on request. Its anniversary arrangement offers room decoration, chocolate strawberries, a candlelit dinner with wines and breakfast in the room.1

  • The eighth Three-Country Gourmet Week is announced for 17–24 January 2027, with daily highlights from the chef’s kitchen. On 6 March 2027, the hotel announces Château Angélus as its guest.1

  • For reservations of 6 or more people, cancellation 0–3 hours before the booked time may incur up to CHF 50 per person. A no-show incurs a CHF 50 fee per person.1

Getting here

AddressDorfstrasse 30, 7563 Samnaun

Buses run from Scuol-Tarasp station in Switzerland or Landeck in Austria. If driving, I would check mountain-road conditions before setting off; the garage connects directly to the rooms by lift. Private airport transfers for up to 6 people cost CHF 240 per ride from Innsbruck or CHF 660 per ride from Zurich or Munich.1

Your day

In the morning

Start with Samnaun cheese

The buffet opens 7am–10.30am. I would begin with Sennerei Samnaun cheeses and bread from the Rechsteiner and Habicher bakeries: a breakfast drawing on Engadine, Tyrol and South Tyrol.

On your return

Pastries, then the shops

Between 3pm and 5pm I would stop for the hotel’s own pastries. For a look around the Zegg Duty Free shops afterwards, I would use the VIP card: it gives 5% off purchases.

To unwind

Individual Massage

The 50-minute Individual Massage costs CHF 130. The stated duration includes preparation and rest time afterwards; cancellations less than 24 hours ahead and no-shows are charged in full.

Before dinner

La Serena or Natioli

La Serena Hotel Bar opens daily from 3pm and is reserved for Chasa Montana guests. For a cigar lounge, Natioli lets you choose from the Zegg humidors and smoke there.

After dinner

The grotto to yourselves

Private Candlelight Jacuzzi reserves the grotto from 9pm for 2 hours, at CHF 500. I would choose it for a private candlelit soak after the space’s ordinary access has ended.
